Newport Winter Fest
Celebrating its 22nd year, this 10-day festival has it all. Spread across Newport, there is music, concerts, contests, ice carving, sand sculpting, historical walking and lantern tours, pizza & chili cookoffs, chowder tastings, vineyard tastings and tours, children's fair, and new this year, polo on the beach -- horses and all. Festival button also saves you 10-20% off at a number of stores, restaurants and attractions. Feb. 12 - 21.

Skating Harborside
The Skating Center at downtown Newport's Yachting Center is always alive with people throughout the Winter. The rink holds about 150 skaters. There's a warming room, rentals, lessons, and food. Newport Harbor Seals
Newport's favorite Winter residents. The harbor seals like to call the rocks off Rose Lighthouse, by the Newport bridge, home through the Winter. Save The Bay not only takes you there but has eco-experts along for the ride with you. Dress warmly and check the schedule, as it is tide dependent. Boat leaves from Bowen's Ferry Landing off Bowen's Wharf in downtown Newport. Fun for all ages. Through April.

Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival Save The Bay brings some of the most popular shorts from the environmental film fest. Screening are at Newport's historic Jane Pickens Theater. Feb 26
The Bit Players  Newport's resident improv comedy troupe settle in for the Winter on Fridays and Saturdays at Firehouse Theater at 8pm through Feb.

Irish Heritage Month Newport has a number of Irish ties, including sister city Kinsale, Ireland. The Kinsale Festival of Fine Food features local and visiting Kinsale chefs at particiapting restaurants.
Newport Restaurant Week
A great way to welcome Spring, and enjoy some of the Best of Newport. Restaurant week features a stellar line-up of 30 or so eateries with special lunch and dinner menus and pricing during the third week of March. Participating venues are serving up a 3-course lunch for $16 and/or a 3-course dinner for $30. A great way to enjoy some of the Best of Newport's top picks. March 19 - 28.

Spring Mansion Mania
Spring is a delightful time to enjoy the famous Gilded Age Newport mansions and gardens. More doors open for daily tours on April 3rd. The Breakers, Chateau-sur-Mer, The Elms, Marble House and Rosecliff open for daily tours. The Elms rooftop and behind-the-scenes tours also resume. On May 8th, Green Animals Topiary Garden and Kingscote open daily, with Hunter House, Cheptow, and Isaac Bell House open on weekends.

"Saving Newport"
Doris Duke was not only the wealthiest woman in the world at the time of her death in 1993, but also a renowned art collector and somewhat of an eccentric, who allowed her 2 pet camels to roam her Newport mansion Rough Point. She also had a passion for preservation. Her efforts saved more than 80 Colonial homes in Newport, and are celebrated in this year's special exhibit, "Saving 18th Century Newport." Thursdays - Saturdays April 8 to May 8. Then Tuesdays - Saturdays through Nov. 6.

Norman Bird Sanctuary
Spread across 325 acres that stretch from rocky ridges down to the ocean, Norman Bird Sanctuary is Newport County's largest preserved open space. The scenery unfolds across woodlands, fields, beaches and sand dunes, and ridges with spectacular ocean vistas. Coastal Wine Trail
Newport is in the heart of the southern New England Wine Growing Appellation. The wineries and vineyards here and in nearby Massachusetts are connected by the Coastal Wine Trail. Taste your way across the coastal backroads of our wine country and sip some tasty regional wine standouts from Vidal Blanc and Chardonnay to Cabernet Franc to sparkling wine.

Cliff Walk
Another Newport original with a seaside twist. The Cliff Walk winds through the front yards of many of Newport's most prominent mansions, along the Atlantic Ocean cliffs. The views and vistas are good in every direction, plus the trail gives you a unique year-rouns view of the Newport mansions. Park the car at First Beach and walk to the mansions. Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge At the eastern tip of Second Beach, is over 240 acres of protected land. Popular for birding, fishing, and hiking, the shrub and open fields have 2+ miles of trails and crashing surf on the rocks.
Ocean Drive Named after the road that winds 10 miles around Newport, the popular route takes you past the mansions, Brenton State Park, and Newport Harbor.
